Spirit Run Privacy Policy

Effective 14 September 2026 · Last updated 18 October 2026

This policy covers Spirit Run, the game for Android, iPhone and iPad published by Bolton Techworks (app ID com.boltontechworks.spiritrun on both platforms). The short version: your progress never leaves your device, and the only things that collect data are the ad service behind the optional videos you choose to watch and, on Android only and only if you choose to join it, the world leaderboard run by Google Play Games.

What we collect ourselves

Nothing. Bolton Techworks operates no servers for this game, has no accounts of its own, and runs no analytics. We never receive your progress, your device identifiers, or any personal information. The one optional exception is described under World leaderboard below, and there the data goes to Google, not to us.

What is stored on your device

Your progress is saved to the app's own private storage using the platform's standard preference store. That covers your best distance, lifetime feather count and other run statistics, the feathers banked in the in-game store and any upgrades bought with them, which Journeys and deeds you have completed, your sound settings, and your answer to the ad consent question. It never leaves the device, we never see it, and uninstalling the game deletes it.

Advertising

Spirit Run has two optional video ads, and you only see one if you press the button for it: one gets you back up after a fall, and the other doubles the feathers a run earned. There are no ads between runs, no banners, and nothing is taken from you if you ignore the buttons.

The ads are served by Google AdMob, an advertising service run by Google.

Versions 1.3 and earlier of Spirit Run served the same two ads through Unity LevelPlay and its networks (ironSource, Unity Ads and Chartboost) instead, and those versions send the same kinds of information to them.

To serve and measure those ads, Google collects information from your device. That typically includes your advertising ID (Android's advertising ID, or Apple's IDFA on iPhone and iPad, and the IDFA only if you allow tracking), IP address (from which they can work out your approximate location), device model and operating system version, and how the ad was displayed and interacted with. They may use it for interest-based advertising if you have agreed to that (see below) and have not limited ad tracking on your device. Google, not Bolton Techworks, controls that data and what is done with it. Google's privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy, and how Google uses data from apps like this one is explained at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

You can reset or delete your advertising ID, and turn off ad personalisation, in Settings → Privacy → Ads on Android. On iPhone and iPad, Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking controls whether apps may ask to track you.

Tracking on iPhone and iPad

On iPhone and iPad, Spirit Run first shows a short screen from Google explaining why the ads would like to use your advertising identifier, then Apple's own "Allow tracking?" question. If you tap Allow, Google may use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) to choose ads meant for you and to measure them. If you tap Ask App Not to Track, the identifier is not shared, and you still get the same two optional videos and the same rewards; the ads are just not personalised. You can change your answer at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → Spirit Run.

Consent to personalised advertising

If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, Spirit Run shows Google's consent form before any ad is requested, and asks whether the ads may use your advertising ID and similar data to pick ones meant for you. You can agree, decline, or look at the options first. Your answer is stored on your device by Google's ad software. Versions 1.3 and earlier asked the same question on a screen of the game's own instead.

You can change your mind at any time. Open Options from the title screen and choose Privacy options. That button only appears where the question is asked, which is why you may not see it.

Saying no does not limit the game in any way. You can still watch the same two optional videos and get the same rewards; the ads are just not chosen for you.

World leaderboard (optional, Android only)

On Android, Spirit Run has an optional world leaderboard run by Google Play Games Services. The iPhone and iPad versions have no leaderboard and send no scores anywhere. It is off until you tap Join leaderboard on the Records screen. Until then the game does not start Play Games, does not sign you in, and sends nothing.

If you join, you sign in with your Google Play Games profile, and the game sends your furthest run, in metres, to Google Play Games Services. It is linked to your Play Games player profile, and it is sent again only when you beat it. Nothing else is sent: not your other statistics, your feathers, or your run history. Google runs the service, stores the score and shows the leaderboard; Bolton Techworks runs no server for it. Other players can see your Play Games name and score according to your Play Games visibility setting. Google's privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

To stop, tap Stop sharing on the Records screen: no more scores are sent. To remove scores already sent, or your Play Games profile, use the Google Play Games app or your Google account settings.

Purchases

There are none. Spirit Run has no in-app purchases.

Network access

The game itself plays offline. The network is used only for ad requests and, on Android if you join the world leaderboard, for Google Play Games. Nothing else in the game sends or receives data.

Children

Spirit Run is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the game serves advertising, families should be aware that the ad service receives device information as described above. If you believe a child has provided information through the advertising in this game, contact us and we will help you raise it with Google.

Your choices

You can reset or delete your advertising ID and turn off ad personalisation in your device settings at any time, and simply not press the ad buttons — no part of the game requires watching an ad. You can also never tap Join leaderboard, or tap Stop sharing after you have. Deleting the game from your device deletes everything the game has stored on it; scores already sent to Google Play Games are managed in the Play Games app.

Changes to this policy

If the game changes in a way that affects this policy, the updated policy is posted at this address with a new date above.
