Description
A free match-3 about restoring a petrified valley for a triceratops king, with optional rewarded videos and in-app purchases, and nothing forced on you.
Amber Throne is a match-3 puzzle game for Android. You swap six kinds of dinosaur eggs to meet each level's goal, build rockets, propellers, blasts and sunbursts out of bigger matches, and spend the sunstones you earn restoring the Amber Basin, a valley turned to stone at the end of the Cretaceous. King Thornback the triceratops wants his throne back, and Pip the Compsognathus tells the story. The game is free to download, has no accounts and plays offline. Its only ads are two optional rewarded videos, and it also offers in-app purchases.
Amber Throne starts with a throne room that has gone to stone. The Amber Basin was petrified at the end of the Cretaceous, and its old king, a triceratops named Thornback, would like it put right. You do that one task at a time: win a level, earn sunstones, and spend them to bring a ruined piece of the valley back to life.
The puzzles are swap-three-or-more matches on a board of six kinds of dinosaur egg. Each level sets its own goal, such as collecting a certain egg, clearing sap and grass, breaking crates or bringing pieces down to the floor, in a limited number of moves. Matches of four or five, or a square, build specials: rockets that fly across the board, a propeller, a blast and a colour-clearing sunburst, and two specials combined do something bigger. Boosters help when a board gets tight.
Between levels there is a lot to do. The valley has 165 areas to restore, each with its own backdrop and tasks. Events and Deeds give you things to chase, and Deeds are cosmetic only. Optional episodes (The Wild Basin, Moss Ledges, Bubble Flats and the Basin Trials) add extra levels and new pieces, and they are free to play. The story is told by Pip the Compsognathus, with Matriarch Ashcrest, Quill, Tuck and the schemer Boneshard.
Amber Throne is made by TotalDogWater Entertainment. It is free to download and plays offline. The only ads are two rewarded videos, both chosen by the player: one gives an extra life when you are out of lives, the other gives 5 extra moves when you are out of moves. There are no full-screen ads between levels and no banners. The same two things can be bought instead of watching a video, and the game also sells amber packs, booster bundles and a starter bundle. Ads are served through Google AdMob and purchases go through Google Play. Progress is saved on the device only, and there are no accounts.
